The spiritual practice of yoga is being in a world that honors, unites and balances the body, mind and spirit. It is all about the breath. Joan McDevitt and Doris Szeto, offer group yoga classes to women and men diagnosed with or undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Yoga aligns the body and breathes through physical postures combined with breath awareness and meditation. Through her own journey as a breast cancer survivor, Joan has found Yoga to be a powerful tool in managing the daily challenges of cancer treatments as well as the side effects and lifelong vulnerabilities they create. The many benefits of yoga include reduction in anxiety and stress, as well as a decrease in insomnia and fatigue. A consistent practice of yoga can strengthen the immune system, increase relaxation, and bring an overall sense of peace and wellbeing.
