Myths and Misconceptions

Antiperspirants and Deodorants

Antiperspirant and deodorant use as it relates to breast cancer risk has long been a debate. It was thought that because there is a greater incidence of breast cancer found in the upper outer quadrant (61%), there was a link to the use of antiperspirants. While antiperspirant use dates back to 3500 BC, there have been no conclusive studies linking the use of antiperspirants to breast cancer. There are several speculative studies, but this is a very difficult association to make given the myriad of other factors that come into play.

If you are still interested in changing from your commercial antiperspirants and deodorants then there is a little-known solution: salt! You can purchase a salt deodorant stick that is highly effective in alleviating any odor but still allows the sweat glands to sweat.
