Beautiful You
When you lose your hair, you tell the world you have breast cancer, with the "Beautiful You" program, you decide who to tell and when to tell them.
In conjunction with Patricia Monte, owner of The Grand Salon and Spa in Buckingham PA, we have developed a program for our patients to help them to deal with the loss of their hair from potentially lifesaving chemotherapy.
Patricia is the Healing Consciousness Foundation 2010 "Vision of Healing" Award recipient. During her own chemotherapy treatment in 2007, she became an advocate for other women experiencing the loss of what all women covet as part of their femininity.
Since the goal of chemotherapy is to kill rapidly dividing cells such as cancer cells. Unfortunately your body hair falls into the category of rapidly dividing cells. The loss of your hair is simple a sign that the chemotherapy is working.
We are fortunate to have one of our breast cancer THRIVERS available in Bucks county to help you in this process. The Grand Salon and Spa in Buckingham is worth the drive and Patty will be there to guide you along the way. She too has walked the path of hair loss and skin changes and has created an environment in her salon that is warm, welcoming and nurturing for women on their cancer journey.
Our Women's Center in Southampton will soon have our own satellite Salon do make this process seamless!

Be prepared to lose your hair by day 14 after your first treatment. A good offense is what you need. By following these few steps you can maintain your power and take control of your treatment instead of letting your treatment take control of you.
- Accept the fact that you will lose your hair temporarily
- Plan to cut your hair short and get a wig cut to match your new short doo (The change is style just before you begin to wear you wig, will keep people guessing)
- Buy a wig that works for you
- Shave your head by day 14 or visit your hair dresser and let her/ him do it for you ( Do not delay this shave as you DO NOT want your hair to fall out in clumps and give the cancer your power)
- REMEMBER Your true beauty is from within and there is no hair loss or surgery that will take that away.
Healing Threads
The Healing Consciousness Foundation feels that the journey to healing should embrace women and men as they are undergoing lifesaving surgery. We have purchased these garments to enhance the post operative period and allow our patients to feel special and cared for. The attention to detail comes from the designers personal experience caring for her sister who was fighting for her life. Peg puts the healing in the threads.
We extended our embrace to the women's imaging department to keep our patients warm and covered during their breast imaging and biopsy procedures.

Holistic Therapies
Acupuncture
Acupuncture therapy promotes health and alleviates pain and suffering. The perspective from which an acupuncturist views health and sickness hinges on concepts of "vital energy," "energetic balance" and "energetic imbalance." Just as the Western medical doctor monitors the blood flowing through blood vessels and the messages traveling via the nervous system, the acupuncturist assesses the flow and distribution of this "vital energy" within its pathways, known as "meridians and channels."

Energy Therapy
Energy therapy is the gentle art of clearing cellular memory through the human energy field promoting health, balance, and relaxation. Energy therapy is based on the concept of connection between the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual realms of our lives found in many holistic healing methods. It uses focused healing energy to clear blocks that accumulate in the body hindering the natural flow of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energy. The healing focus promotes personal empowerment, self-healing, and spiritual growth.
Guided Imagery
To the body, images created in the mind can be almost as real as actual events. This gentle yet powerfuk tool focuses and directs the imagination, involving the body, the emotions and all the senses. In many instances even 10 minutes of imagery can make a difference. Guided Imagery may be shown, again and again, to reduce the adverse effects of chemotherapy, especially nausea, depression and fatigue.
Clinical Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a valuable tool for changing the unwanted habits or behaviors. Hypnosis is a valuable tool for changing the unwanted habits or behaviors. Hyponsis works by guiding a person into a deeply relaxed state, in which the unconscious mind is most open to hearing postive suggestions and images. During this deep relaxation, you are in control at all times. Hypnosis is especially suportive for pain control, stress relief, surgical recovery and healing, reducing adverse effects of chemotherapy, managing specific chronic illnesses, smoking cessation and weight management.
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic Massage is very relaxing and jejuvenating. Designed to alleviate pain and discomfort, muscle spasm or stress. Massage provides greater joint flexibility and range of motion, improves circulation of blood and movement of lymph fluids, and reduces blood pressure. The more nuturing benefits include fostering a sense of well-being, and providing the experience of being nurtured and cared for through compassionate touch.
Cranio Sacral Therapy
Cranio Sacral therapy is non-invasive, gentle technique influences and restores the Cranio Sacral system. Like the cardiovascular and respiratory rhythms, the Cranio Sacral system influences many body functions. By applying gentle pressure to various postions on the skull and spine, the rhythm of the pulse normalizes and the postive effects can be quite pronounced. Excellent for stress, alleviating TMJ, chronic pain, headaches and whiplash.
Reflexology
This energy modality is based on the understanding that there are nerve endings, zones and reflexes in the hands and feet that corresponds to and connect with all parts, glands and organs of the body in a parasympathetic healing state. With stress removed and circulation impoved, the body is allowed to return to a state of balance.
Meditation
Meditation is a method of quieting the mind to center in a state of peace which is at the core of one's being. To enter a meditative state, one chooses a single point of attention upon which to focus. The most common focal point is one's breath. Other practices include – but are not limited to – focusing on a single image (such as a candle flame or a mandala), repeating a mantra or tone, or performing a repetitive activity which frees the mind (such as walking, washing dishes, dusting, etc.)
Essential Breathing
In today's stress-filled world, we do not take the time to breathe properly and abundantly. In this one-hour facilitated session, learn deep, diaphragmatic breathing techniques to experience reduced stress, relief from chronic pain, and increased energy and vitality.
Reiki
This ancient healing art is best known for providing a feeling of deep peace and relaxation. Reiki has been found to decrease pain and tension, to relieve anxiety prior to and speed healing after surgery. During difficult times, Reiki offers soothing comfort and facilitates a more peaceful state of mind.
Yoga
Yoga is an ancient Indian body of knowledge that dates back more than 500 years. The word "Yoga" came from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means "to unite or integrate." Yoga then is about the union of a person's own consciousness and the universal consciousness.
Ancient Yogis had a belief that in order for man to be in harmony with himself and his environment, he has to integrate the body, the mind, and the spirit. For these three to be integrated, emotion, action, and intelligence must be in balance. The Yogis formulated a way to achieve and maintain this balance and it is done through meditation, exercise and breath.
Breathing techniques were developed based on the concept that breath is the source of life. In Yoga, students gain breathing control as they slowly increase their breathing. By focusing on their breathing, they prepare their minds for the next step.
Prepare for Surgery, Chemotherapy or Radiation
Would you like to take a more active role in your healing process? Research ahs shown that people who prepared for their surgery or treatment path had less pain, fewer complications, responded better and recovered sooner. Utilizing cutting edge visualization and mind-body techniques, you will learn to bring forward empowering, health-enhancing qualities such as helplessness, stress, depression and anxiety. This very simple, yet profound process consists of a facilitated session that includes your support person.
